David Harms Athletic Biography

David Harms Discus Throw Alden High School

As An Athlete

I had big dreams going into Junior High Athletics, but what I didn’t have was a lot of physical ability.  I participated in football, wrestling and track.  In wrestling, my 7th grade record was 5-8-1. In practice, we did push-ups every day and I began to notice they were becoming easier for me and I also noticed the definition in my arms was changing. I decided when wrestling was over I would continue working out on my own. My first workout was 25 Jumping Jacks, 10 push-ups, and 10 sit-ups every other day.  I followed that workout all the way through my 8th grade year. In football, I don’t think I was mature enough to take advantage of my strength gains.  I started a couple games but was overall disappointed.  In wrestling, my 8th grade season, I was 7-3-1 and defeated several wrestlers I had lost to the year before.  In Track & Field, my new-found strength paid dividends as I won starting positions in the Discus and running events.  I finished 3rd in the conference in the 880 yard Run.   As I passed through puberty, I began to strength train with weights in High School.  As an athlete for the Alden Redskins- here are some of the things we accomplished:
