Strength Training & Weight Loss
After I read the article by Deborah L. Mullen (linked below), it confirmed something I have believed for a long time: strength training is one of the most effective ways to burn fat over the long term. If you want to burn fat in a healthy way, you can only burn about 2 lbs of fat per week. You can lose more weight than that, but weight easily lost is easily regained! With strength training, you can turn your body into a fat burning machine! Think about it. During your strength training workout, you're burning fat. After your strength training workout, your body is burning fat for the next 48 hours rebuilding the muscle tissue you broke down during your strength training workout. (48 hours is the recommended recovery time between strength training sessions.) If every muscle in your body is burning fat in the process of rebuilding muscle tissue over a 48 hour period, think about how many calories you will burn in the process. Muscle tissue is very active in burning fat during and after your workout. Strength training is probably one of the most efficient ways to reach that “fat burn” you are looking for.
